Frequently Asked Questions

💬 Questions About Therapy

1. Do you offer a free initial session?

We don’t offer free initial appointments. However, if you have any questions before booking, you can reach out through our Contact page and we’ll connect you directly with one of our therapists.
It’s important that the first session allows enough time to explore what brings you to therapy, so we don’t offer shorter “check-ins.” You’re always welcome to ask questions beforehand to get to know your therapist and see if it feels like the right fit.

2. What kind of therapy do you offer?

Reconnect Scotland offers couples therapy, relationship counselling, and family therapy in Edinburgh.
We focus on relational wellbeing - whether that’s between partners, family members, or within yourself. Our approach is compassionate, non-judgmental, and tailored to your situation.

3. If I have a relationship issue but my partner doesn’t want to come, can I come alone?

Yes. While couples therapy works best when both partners attend, we understand that’s not always possible.
You’re very welcome to come for individual therapy to explore your relationship patterns, emotions, and needs. Many people find that individual work still leads to meaningful shifts in how they relate to others.

4. What if I don’t feel comfortable with my therapist?

That’s absolutely okay. Finding the right fit is important.
If something doesn’t feel right, please let us know - you can speak with your therapist directly or contact us, and we’ll happily refer you to another practitioner within Reconnect Scotland. Therapists don’t take offense; open communication is encouraged.

5. Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential, in line with ethical frameworks of the BACP and NCPS.
Your therapist will only share information if there’s a serious concern about your safety or the safety of others, and even then, they’ll discuss it with you wherever possible before taking action.

6. What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session.
Sessions cancelled within 48 hours may still be charged, as your therapist sets aside that time specifically for you.

🎨 Questions About Workshops & Community Spaces

1. Do I need any experience to join your creative workshops?

Not at all! Our creative workshops in Edinburgh are beginner-friendly and open to everyone.
Each session includes project options with step-by-step guidance and all materials - just bring yourself and your curiosity.

2. What if I start a project that needs more time to finish?

Some projects, like clay or painting, may need drying or additional work later.
You’re welcome to take your piece home to finish, or we can safely store it for you at Reconnect Scotland so you can complete it in your next session.

3. Can I take art supplies or materials home?

All materials and tools are provided for use during the workshop.
We ask that they stay in the space so everyone has access to what they need - but you’re always welcome to bring your own materials if you’d like to continue a project at home.

4. What kinds of workshops do you run?

Our community wellbeing workshops in Edinburgh include spaced like CRASP that offers activities like painting, clay, crocheting, collage or sewing or Community Hub spaces that are designed to help you slow down, connect, and unwind. With our Community Hub events we always try to bring a new theme, such as transitions, belonging, or renewal.

5. What if I’m coming alone - will I feel out of place?

Not at all. Many people attend our groups solo.
Our sessions are intentionally gentle, inclusive spaces where you can meet others, take time for yourself, and enjoy a sense of community - no pressure to talk or perform.

6. Do your workshops link with therapy?

Our creative workshops aren’t therapy sessions, but they are therapeutically informed.
They’re designed by counsellors and facilitators who understand emotional safety and creativity as pathways to wellbeing.
